What it can mean
Flystrike is when flies lay eggs on a rabbit, most often on a damp or soiled bottom, and the eggs hatch into maggots that burrow into the skin, sometimes within hours. It is most common in warm weather and in rabbits who cannot keep themselves clean. This is one of the fastest-moving emergencies in rabbits: maggots or fly eggs need your exotic vet right away, within the hour, not the next day. Keep your rabbit calm and get to the vet as fast as you can.
