Can rabbits eat milk, cheese and dairy?

A quick, sourced answer from House Rabbit Society and RWAF guidance, with the why behind it.

Milk, cheese and dairy

Best avoided

Rabbits are plant-eaters with a gut built for fibre, not animal food. Adult rabbits do not make lactase, the enzyme that digests milk sugar, so milk, cheese, butter and cream cannot be broken down properly. The undigested sugar and fat feed the wrong gut bacteria and can cause soft stool, gas, painful bloating and the gut slowing down. This is the same reason yogurt drops are off-limits.

How much: Best avoided. There is no rabbit reason to offer any dairy.
